Titanium Precision Turned Parts

Tuoyuan Metal is a high-precision titanium precision turned parts manufacturer and specialized engineering supplier located in China. Operating an advanced CNC turning factory equipped with high-rigidity machine beds, high-pressure coolant systems, and diamond tooling, we produce custom titanium components for aerospace engines, medical implants, marine exploration, and high-end sports equipment.

Tuoyuan Metal machined titanium precision turned parts for over a decade in our 5,000 m² factory in Qingdao, China. We run a dedicated process route for titanium — rigid tooling, controlled speeds and feeds, and coolant strategy tuned to the alloy — so the part you receive holds the tolerance you paid for, on every batch.

Titanium is the metal buyers request when the part has to be light, strong, and durable at the same time — and then discover that machining it is a different game from ordinary metals. Titanium holds heat, springs back at the tool, and wears cutters fast. A cheap titanium quote is usually a quote for trouble; the supplier that prices it with a process plan is the partner to keep.

Why Titanium Is Hard to Machine and How We Handle It?

Heat Concentration

Titanium conducts heat at about 7.2 W/m·K — roughly one-sixth of steel — so cutting heat stays at the tool edge. We control it with rigid setups, sharp positive-rake inserts, and high-pressure coolant, which is why our tool life and surface finish stay consistent.

Work Hardening and Springback

The material hardens where titanium precision turned parts are cut and springs back after the tool passes. Tolerances of ±0.01mm on thin-wall titanium parts are achievable only with controlled depth-of-cut sequences and pre-finished dimensions — this is where experience shows up in the part, not in the quote.

Chemical Reactivity

At cutting temperature titanium reacts with tool materials, accelerating wear. Carbide grades with the right coating, plus flood coolant, keep the reaction zone cool — details that decide whether your lot ships on time or gets scrapped.

Operating Precautions & Correct Machining Practices

Machining titanium requires strict control over cutting forces and heat buildup:

DO NOT Use Low Cutting Feeds: Titanium work-hardens rapidly. Always maintain a positive, continuous feed rate so the cutting tool stays below the work-hardened layer.

DO USE High-Pressure Coolant (70+ Bar): Direct high-pressure coolant flushes chips away from the tool cutting zone, keeping cutting temperatures low and extending tool life.

DO NOT Use High Cutting Speeds: Keep surface cutting speed moderate to prevent heat buildup, which can cause titanium chips to ignite or weld to carbide inserts.

Correct Use and Common Mistakes

One common mistake is choosing titanium simply because it is a premium material.

If the component is a simple indoor mechanical spacer, titanium may provide no meaningful benefit over stainless steel or aluminum.

Another mistake is specifying extremely tight tolerances on every feature. We recommend identifying only the dimensions that affect assembly and performance as critical tolerances.

A third mistake is ignoring surface condition. If the component is used in a fatigue-sensitive application, the required surface finish and machining direction may need to be considered during design.

Customer Testimonial

“Machining accuracy is spoton. Threads and dimensions match our drawing perfectly. Surface finish is better than expected. Consistent quality across the whole lot, solid packaging with zero scratches. We will place repeat orders.”

Our strict inhouse quality inspection and protective export packaging deliver reliable custom CNC turned parts for global clients.

Packaging and Shipment

Titanium components are normally packed individually or separated with protective material when the surface must remain free from scratches.

Small precision parts can be packed in cartons with internal separation, while larger components may be placed in protective bags and export cartons or wooden cases according to quantity and shipping requirements.

For repeat orders, we can maintain consistent packing requirements so the customer receives the titanium precision turned parts in the same format each time.

Company Strength

Tuoyuan Metal operates a 5,000-square-meter manufacturing facility and reports an annual production capacity exceeding 100 million pieces. The company has customers in more than 20 countries and regions and offers precision machining together with surface treatment services.

Our business is built around customized metal components rather than only standard catalog products. Customers can provide a drawing or sample, and we evaluate the material, machining process, tolerance and finishing requirements before production.

Titanium Precision Turned Parts

Quality Assurance

Our website identifies Tuoyuan as an ISO-certified China metal manufacturer and states that the company has a professional team controlling production processes. It also reports a 48-hour response to quality issues and an average delivery time of around 15 days.

For titanium precision turned parts, inspection can be arranged around the dimensions that actually affect assembly and function. Material certification and additional inspection requirements can be discussed for engineering projects.

FAQ

Q1: What are titanium precision turned parts used for?

A1: Titanium turned parts are commonly used in aerospace-related equipment, medical devices, specialized machinery, chemical equipment, marine applications and other projects requiring high strength-to-weight performance and corrosion resistance.

Q2: Which titanium grades can you machine?

A2: Common options include commercially pure titanium Grade 2 and Grade 5 titanium alloy, also known as Ti-6Al-4V. The exact grade should be specified according to the application.

Q3: Can you CNC machine Ti-6Al-4V?

A3: Yes. Ti-6Al-4V can be CNC turned and machined, but machining parameters and tooling need to be selected specifically for titanium.

Q4: Why is titanium more difficult to machine than aluminum?

A4: Titanium has relatively low thermal conductivity and can retain heat around the cutting area. This increases tool wear and requires careful control of cutting speed, feed, tooling and cooling conditions.

Q5: Can titanium precision parts be threaded?

A5: Yes. Internal and external threads can be produced according to the specified thread size, pitch and tolerance.
