Most aluminum parts are specified in 6061, and most of the time that is the right call. But when the part carries real load — a drone arm, a mold plate, a race-car bracket — 6061 flexes where 7075 does not. 7075-T6 is the aluminum that behaves more like steel: roughly twice the yield strength of 6061-T6, at the same weight.

Core Advantages

The biggest advantage is the combination of high strength and relatively low density. Aluminum is much lighter than steel, while 7075 provides substantially higher strength than many general-purpose aluminum grades.

The material also machines well under controlled CNC conditions. For complicated components, our machining process can produce accurate holes, pockets, threads, steps and contoured surfaces directly from the customer's CAD drawing.

When 7075 Is the Right Specification

Load-bearing brackets, drone and robotics frames, mold plates, high-end bicycle and racing components, and any part where deflection means failure. If the design calls for strength near steel with aluminum weight, 7075 is the answer.

When to Stay with 6061

Corrosion-critical marine 7075 aluminum CNC machining components, weldments (7075 welds poorly), and cost-sensitive general hardware. We machine both and will tell you honestly which alloy fits — the wrong alloy costs more than the material difference.

Machining 7075 Correctly

Stress Relief

7075 arrives with internal stress from the rolling and aging process. For thin-wall or precision parts, we recommend and perform stress-relief steps so the part does not move after machining — the difference between a 7075 aluminum CNC machining component that holds ±0.01mm and one that drifts.

Thin-Wall Control

Lightweight designs mean thin walls, and thin walls mean deflection during cutting. Our machining sequences use staged cuts and balanced clamping so wall thickness stays uniform across the batch.

Surface Treatment Fit

7075 anodizes well when the surface is prepared correctly. We control the pre-anodize finish — the common cause of patchy anodizing is a rough substrate, not the tank.

CNC Machining Process

Our normal process starts with drawing review. We check the material grade, critical dimensions, tolerance requirements and machining features before programming.

The material is then prepared for CNC machining. Depending on the geometry, milling, turning, drilling and tapping operations may be combined. After machining, critical dimensions are inspected before surface treatment or final packing.

This process is especially useful for 7075 aluminum CNC machining components containing several functional surfaces because we can establish machining references before moving to the next operation rather than treating every dimension independently.
